How much should you pay your medical team members? What is the appropriate rate? Are you you losing talent because you're below market?
We've asked these questions ourselves and put together the appropriate guidelines for all the roles you may need to hire for your medical practice. Want to see more roles, mark it in the comments and we'll do the research.
Over the coming months, we'll have more details laid out for each position. In the interim, hopefully the table below can provide some clarity as you're extending offer letters and growing your respective practices.
Title | Hourly Rate | Avg. Annual Rate | Low Range | High Range |
$15-$22 | $39,560 | $30,965 | $48,154 | |
Medical Scheduler | $14-$22 | $37,158 | $28,901 | $45,415 |
Front Desk Supervisor | $18-$26 | $46,500 | $38,000 | $55,000 |
Medical Biller | $15-$28 | $44,383 | $30,965 | $57,801 |
Billing Manager | $21-$46 | $69,500 | $44,000 | $95,000 |
Medical Assistant | $14-$24 | $39,222 | $28,901 | $49,544 |
Practice Administrator | NA | $84,678 | $44,250 | $125,105 |
Obviously all rates / salaries vary dramatically by geography (California vs Iowa), tenure / experience, and what the specific job description is of the role that applies to your clinic...so adjust the numbers as you see fit.
The other big differentiator in pay is based upon specialty and size of your practice. If you are working for a 30 provider independent practice, it stands to reason that the job and complexity is far more complicated than if you were working for a 5 provider practice or a 1 provider practice. In those situations, you'd expect the leadership team to make more than the high end of the range, while the front desk team might sit at the median of the range.
Make sure you take stock of all the different variables, but the key is making sure you have a healthy practice that people want to work at so you don't have to keep hunting for new talent.
